Sad news about our Omio, Judy Riley

I'm so incredibly sad to have to share that we've lost our Omio. I got an email letting us know that Judy Riley passed away in April. We learned it was due to complications from pneumonia. Here is the obituary.

I'm sure all of our hearts and prayers will be with Judy's family. She's been missed over the past few months and it won't be the same here without her.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation. (Judy was the president of this foundation). Website: www.scvsf.org Address: SCV Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 220236, Santa Clarita, CA 91322.

Her avatars always made me laugh, because they seemed so unlike her. I'm so grateful to have met Judy in person too. In looking at her gallery, I noticed her last layout was honored as the layout of the day in February.

We'll miss you Omio.

A note from Judy's husband, Mike, shared with permission:

My Judy developed pneumonia and it overwhelmed her lungs. She was in icu for 43 days and her heart finally gave out. She passed on 4/10 15 minutes before her 69th birthday. Our daughter and I were with her when she passed. We had her memorial service/celebration of life two weeks later. We displayed many of her digital layouts before and after the services. Judy was cremated and I have her ashes. When my time comes I will be cremated also and our children will spread our ashes together.

Judy was president of the Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation and we asked for donations to the Foundation in lieu of flowers. So far she has received 34 donations and over $3500. A scholarship in Judy's name for the full amount will be given to a deserving high school Senior next spring. Our family has also established a scholarship in honor of Judith Ann that will be given annually.

Judith Ann loved working with DSP and designing her layouts. She specialized in showing off her grandchildren and they loved her for it.

If anyone wants more info or would like to donate to the scholarship fund, [info shared above]. I can give them the contact info for the Scholarship Foundation.

Thank you for the kind note and remembering my Judy.
Mike Riley

My thoughts and Prayers to her family.

I too met Judy - what a wise & wonderful lady (I owe my wonderful Tamron lens to her suggestion) - what a loss. My thought and prayers are with her family.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with her(and scamp and doda) at the first Adobe crop!! And then Shawn and I had the privilege of spending a day scrapping with her down in L.A.!!
Shawn loved "debating" with her, he was just asking about her the other day!! Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

I spent many hours with Judy outside of DSP and in real life. She is the one who contacted me after I registered for the first laptop crop in Anaheim and dragged me kicking and screaming into DSP life. She made sure that I didn't stray too far away and doled out tons of amazing advice.

She was a wise woman! We talked for hours and hours about life and about her struggles and she always had a bright word for me. I will miss her so very much. The world will be a little less bright without our Omio's wisdom!

Bye, Judy!

I am sitting here smiling at the remembered laughs I shared with Judy specially in my early days on the granny thread her and i shared a passion for teaching she was a very long time teacher and she would often private msg me with a little comment and gggle over some comment that had been directed about teachers. She was one very wise very caring lady who truly made a marked difference to many

It took me a very long time before i realized that Omi was not an old decrepit woman who smoked cigarettes. I thought her avitar was her real photo. Very sad news indeed. I'll miss you Judy.

I'm so sad to hear this. Omio was helpful to me in many ways since she and I experienced the same ailments in life. I will miss her deeply! I too would like to know what caused her passing....
