Snow/Frost Border

I'm new to this stuff, but would like a nice snow/frosty border that can be recolored to go around my pictures. I guess it would look like those expensive pictures that you get from the studio that's been faded out on the edges. But I'd like mine to be a little more pixelated, like snowflakes would be. I've got a couple pictures I'd like to use this treatment on.

Any help, brushes, links to tutorials or downloads much appriciated!!!

Oh, I use Photoshop 7.

Thanks so much!

We have some cool edges in our freebies>overlays gallery. Take a look at the layer mask tutorials and you may be able to figure out how to make your own.

Great suggestion for our designers as well!

I use PS7 too. You could highlight the area around the picture and then use the filter>noise>add noise make sure it is uniform and monocrhomatic. then just play with the numbers until you have it how you like.

You could also highltight your picture (leaving somewhat of a frame) and then click to create a vector mask. This will "erase" the "frame" of the picture. then goto filter>distort>diffused glow and play with the numbers and settings until you have what you are looking for. Make sure you have a white background underneath your picture. Here is an example of that:

Not sure if that is what you are looking for, but the latter is my favorite technique.

to add snowflakes, you would have to find a snowflake brush (or create your own).

Hope that helps!

this can also be a greyscale edge mask like these that Lauren made:

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...=41442&cat=835

There might be one in here you can use too

My favorite way to make these is to add a Layer Mask to the photo layer. Then use the Shape Tool on the mask (the raster shape, not vector, make sure PS is set to Fill Pixels option in the Options Bar) and draw a black oval or rectangle on the photo mask. Then run some filters on it. The Noise one is good, you can run several for a neat effect like mosaic, halftone, angled strokes, spatter. Have fun and experiment. Then you can blur things to get just the right amount

There are two very pretty overlays in Meryl Bartho's Christmas Treasures kit... one is snowflakes, and the other is tiny stars.

I used the snow overlay in this layout:

I used the star overlay in this layout:
