No commercial scrapping sites or acronyms. Designer and/or kit name only.): Journaling reads Claude’s story of the cowbell and two mules. an excerpt from A Month of Summer by Lisa Wingate “Them mules was the talk of the county, though. Jes was blind and Tab was deaf. When you put them in a harness together, Tab could see where they was goin’ and Jes could hear my daddy give ‘em ge and haw and giddup and woah. He’d call out, and Jess would move forward, and then Tab would take over and lead ‘em straight down the row.” “When Daddy turned them two out to pasture, he’d put a cowbell on old Tab. Tab would walk a little way, and then he’d shake his head up and down like he was waitin’ for Jes to catch up. Jes could follow that bell sound all around the pasture, uphill and downhill. He could tell that terrain just by how the bell sounded. He was a smart mule to figure that out. But the thing I always wondered was how’d the deaf mule know to keep shakin’ his head after he stopped walking, since he couldn’t hear the bell? It was the durndest conundrum the way neither of them mules could get by on its own, but the two of them was just perfect as a pair. My daddy used to say there was a good lesson in it for people. Most of the time when we got a tough row to plow, the Good Lord makes us fall a little short and puts another mule in the pasture. You don’t never know whether you’re the blind mule or the deaf mule, but you’re always one or the other.” Picture is from ReneT Kits used are by Teresa Loman Etta'sTrumpet Vine Etta's Trumpet Vines Add on pack

6 comments Lisa Wingate Sat, 02 May 2009 16:31:19 -0400 Velda Brotherton http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=254574

by: Lisa Wingate

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! No commercial scrapping sites or acronyms. Designer and/or kit name only.): FROM THE BOOK "LANGUAGE OF THE SYCAMORES" by Lisa WIngate “The other day, I was out in the back lot behind the church, back near that hill where the kids play in the sand sometimes. It’s a funny thing about kids— you can make them all the clean sandboxes in the world, and they’ll still prefer an old hill of real, one hundred percent dirt. “It’s been kind of a dry spring so far, so we haven’t had to do much mowing out in the back lot, but we finally had some rain a few weeks ago, praise the Lord. So I went out to mow, and I saw all of these old buckets, pots, and pans the kids had left sitting around near their dirt pile. And you know, as I looked around, I noticed something. The perfect ones had caught the rainwater and held it until it became stagnant and black. All the grass around them was dead. The containers that were dented or cracked or had holes had probably caught rainwater as well, but they had poured the water out through the holes. There was no stagnant water in them, and the grass around them was growing. “It's the same with people. It’s those little nicks and dents and imperfections of spirit that allow us to flow out into a thirsty world. It’s our scars that allow us to relate to the scars of others, our suffering that connects us to others who suffer. “Consider for yourselves which life you’d rather have, which vessel you’d rather be. Perfect? Or imperfect? Ready to hold in everything that comes your way or ready to pour out and be refilled with each new rain? Closed to the world...or open to the possibilities...” -Brother Baker Text copyright- 2005 Wingate Media LLC. Bucket Design copyright- 2008 LogoMotions, Inc. The journaling is from Tending Roses and reads Even passing folk admired my roses. Once, a poor hired lady came to me with a bouquet of roses and wildflowers clasped in her hands. She told me that her children had sneaked into my garden and picked them for her. She smiled, and thanked me, and told me that, with so many children, she had no time for tending roses. I did not understand her words until my own children was born. When the first was a babe, I took her outside and let her play in an empty wash barrel so I could have time for tending my roses. I was often cross with her cries while I was at my work. As she grew, and as my second child was born, I understood what the hired lady had told me--that motherhood leaves no time for selfish pleasures. Only time for tending others...
