Balboa Park is renowned for its lush landscaping and lovely gardens. To my surprise when I got there, they were hosting the Earth Day Fair. I was surrouned by live music, eco-friendly vendors, and lots of beautiful flowers. The park was a magnificent backdrop for the fair and provided me with multiple photo opportunities. This was my favorite photo of the day. I love how bright the flowers are. You can even see how big the crowd was at the fair. "

DSU 190 Lahaina - Paper Style

Designer and/or kit name only.): For this first assignment, I redid a LO that I had finished a week ago which highlighted my vacation in Maui. The original layout was done in graphic style with zero drop shadows and can be seen here. This is the same exact LO but now has drop shadows to appear "paper style": http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...p?photo=252195 This LO utilizes the drop shadows mentioned in DSU 190 Lesson One. My objective was to see how changing the "style" of the layout affected the LO. In my opinion, the photos were unaffected (no big difference IMO) but the journaling looks like it's "floating" now - which I don't like. I can live w/o the drop shadow and keep it how it was originally but I would appreciate some CC on how to "fix" the journaling; that way if I do decide to do journaling in the future w/ a paper style LO, I'll know what to do. -- Focal Point: - What is your focal point in this layout? My objective was to highlight the photos of Maui then tie the story together with a journal What have you done to make it the focal point? I used frames and sorted the photos, embellishments, and journaling so that the eyes scanned left to right then focused on the journaling as a tie in. Tone and Colour: What tone are you trying to achieve with this layout? I wanted to emphasize the clear blue waters of Maui. I wanted the Lo to look refreshing and invigorating. Why did you choose the backgrounds and colour scheme that you did - What effect do the colours you chose have on the layout? I believe that the colors supported my goal of having the LO look refreshing - as if you could literally jump into the page. I also gathered embellishments that I felt would coordinate well with the bright blue and opted for a fresh sun burst flower. How have you achieved flow through your layout ( ie visual triangle z flow) In retrospect, I can see the triangle on the first page and how it leads to the second page. I think that the pose of the Hawaiin maiden, with her elbow up in the air, helps make the eye move to the next page. As that happens, the eyes can scan the remaining photos then zone in on the journaling. Font:Why use these fonts? What effect do they have on the layout? I used New Courier simply because it was easy to read against the background. I didn't want a thick/heavy font. I wanted a font that was slim and would flatter the rest of the LO. Journalling: Friday, February 22, 2008 When we arrived at the port of Lahaina we boarded a tender to reach the island. It was a beautiful morning; there wasn�t a cloud in the sky and the water was so blue! For our shore excursion, we went on a snorkel cruise in the tropical waters of Maui. We boarded a spacious motor vessel and journeyed across the clear blue waters surrounding Maui and got to see plenty of whales along the way. Our first snorkel site was at the stunning Molokini Crater which had a great variety of tropical fish and coral. Afterwards, we cruised to Olowalu�s Turtle Reef which is frequented by gentle Hawaiin green sea turtles. After our exciting excursion, we walked around Old Lahaina then finally decided to grab lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Movie replicas were everywhere and the food was delicious! We sat at the outdoor patio that overlooked the ocean, giving us a spectacular view of the crystal clear water - it was a beautiful day.
