I can see I need a 2nd page to explain my choices for the 1st page. 1.Knit - a pair of plain vanilla socks for my niece 2.Dance - actually, what I was doing instead of dancing. Play-testing my b-i-l's new boardgame design (I won tonight!) 3.Write - a plot board showing the (empty) squares for chapters 8 & 13 4.Cook - brownies! 5.Organize My Library - I cleared out the space in front of the mystery shelf, and actually got some books back on it 6.Sew - this is a cheat, I made these two dragons years ago. Nothing new this month. 7.Exercise - clear evidence of the reason why Exercise appears twice on this list. My chocolate bowl at work (with my pirate bear protecting it) 8.Exercise - this is a map of Middle Earth between Weathertop and Rivendell. The red dot is just before the Stone Trolls. I've been walking for almost a year with an online group that measures mileage by The Hobbit and The LotR. I intend to be in Rivendell to celebrate the downfall of Mordor on March 25. 9.Design Fabric - this isn't quite what I had in mind when I started this list, but it fits. Designer and/or kit name only.): I rounded the lower right (and re-did the upper left as I found I'd taken small notches out from the ends of the curve. Not noticeable in the busy background, but visible on the grungy pink strip.) I tried moving the circle over and down, and couldn't find a good place for it. So I lined up the lower edges and then moved the photo and circle down together. This gives Meagan more room to climb UP<g> I moved the word art over and down a little, now that there was more space up there. And rounded the corners too. Old West County Chicken Coop

Designer and/or kit name only.): I don't know exactly where I've gone with this - but I sure had fun getting here! Monday I set off in search of two outlying Snoopy statues - and came across this great old chicken coop. Naturally I needed a photo of it... Lauren's background really is down there on the bottom - I could see the difference when I turned off that layer. The "Vineyard" newspaper is acting as an overlay. I duplicated the photo, turned the copy sepia, layered them together, and used textured brushes to erase the sepia in places. It's a Twin Thing - Trend Setter Rd 2

Designer and/or kit name only.): My sister bought the twins t-shirts that read "It's a Twin Thing - You Wouldn't Understand." I got that stuck in my head and had to build this layout around it. I built the background first, using the torn cardboard from Coffee Break as my template for torn edges on everything else. I recolored the background of the painted paper to blend in, then added the woodgrain. I layered DistressedCircles over the brick and played with blending modes. I had fun with fonts and made a text-layered paper. Where I felt I had holes, I added the register receipt! I'd originally intended to have more photos, but once I added the first one I realized it needed to be larger to hold its own with the background I'd built. So I enlarged it, and layered it over an even larger, still colored version. I turned the photo into a colored sketch, then layered it over a b&w version and adjusted blending layers and transparency. Finally, I decided it needed something completely different. So I built the pinwheel. Getting the shadows right on the folded-over edges was a bear! (The good news is, I now have a QuickClick so I can make more!) And I cut the triangles out of the ArgyleStucco. The title is built on a path - man, do I need to practice with the pen tool! Love & Joy - Trend Setter Round 1

Designer and/or kit name only.): Such a lovely photo to work with - thank you, Meryl! This is the 4th version of this - I started with much more "stuff" and it got pared to this. I kept checking it at gallery size to see how I was doing<g> I cropped and enlarged the photo, and played with levels. I tried various filters, but nothing looked as good to me as leaving it plain. The weaving with the frame was done with masks. The light-colored background started out as BG_blackgrunge. I inverted the colors (and got some really interesting greys and blues but not what I needed for this) and then color-matched it to a swatch of the curtain. Then lowered the opacity. I wanted more lightness for this joyous photo, esp since I was adding black swirls and the title. I used Spanish Court Hand WF for most of the title and the date (I've been *trying* to stay out of the gallery, but I've snuck peeks at a few, including Pam's where I swiped the date.) It's an antique hand-writing font and I love the shape of it. I moved the title from upper-right & horizontal to lower-left & vertical so the eye (at least, *my* eye) didn't try to read it before looking at the photo. In 3 years of photo-taking I have this one photo of the two of them, facing the camera, and it had to be greatly enlarged to be useful. Kathleen & Kage are founding members of St. Alban's guild at the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire and I have been part of their family for several years now. I signed the letter Neassa because they, and most of my Faire friends, use that name for me. Journaling: You will probably shriek when I say I look on the two of you as role-models! You have, together, created a life of creativity & friendship. Kathleen, what you have done with St. Alban�s over the years is every bit as creative as what Kage has done with her writing. I am not the only one who takes inspiration from the two of you. Without children of your own, you have created a family that does what all families do - play and fight and work together. Pieces of My Past - example layout

Designer and/or kit name only.): I was inspired to try this week's challenge - and offer this up as an example for those who don't have family photos they can use. Just another possibility. UPDATE: I took the advice and added my name and date (too focused on the journaling to remember the first time round!) Journaling: I am surrounded by Pieces of My Past. I have keepsakes - Hannah Maria�s steamer trunk, a silk embroidery from the Far East Grandpa Skold gave to his mother, jewelry from both sides of the family. Some of the Pieces are more practical. My iced tea glasses, ice cream bowls and everyday silver from Grandma Chatham, tripods from Grandpa Skold, a dictionary & grammar book from Grandma Skold. And them some Pieces I see when I look in the mirror. The Chatham hair - thick and dark, and turning to the most beautiful silver and then white. Eyebrows that I can see in four generations of Skold photographs. And some Pieces are intangible. A talent for writing from Grandma Skold, and an interest in photography shared with Grandpa Skold. An even temper I inherited from Grandpa Chatham. A taste for cooking handed down by Grandma Chatham. Even more fragile connections - the faintest hint of a Irish accent, a lingering gift from Hannah Maria, shared with my Mom and my Grandma. We were to create a collage about ourselves using at least 4 photos, 1 downloaded from the Adobe Stock Photos (the cottage) and use blending modes, layer styles, opacity and a few other things we're supposed to have learned in the last 6 weeks. I liked this well enough to want to show it off! I've never been happy with my collages before.

Designer and/or kit name only.): This is for the photo manipulation Art Journal challenge. The photo was part of a photo shoot - heavens, two years ago - out at the Pacific Coast above Bodega. I cropped it, duplicated the layer, and ran the Colored Pencil filter on it, then adjusted the opacity to let more of the white foam show through. Then, I challenged myself to add a little more, and a little more. I did a lot of colorizing, getting everything to tone. I'll have to challenge myself to let the elements stand as they are - I'd have to, to some extent, if this were a paper project. [edit: okay, I did the "illustrate a quote" challenge, too.] An excellent "stretcher". I usually scrap more minimalist but I'm fascinated by collage. So here I am, trying my wings! The lady is scanned from old family photos. I'm assuming she's a friend of Great-Grandma Gould's. Once I finished colorizing her, and started to think what else I could do, it occurred to me that the cats would *love* to sleep on that hat! And Luau fit best. I think I hit the mark this time! I'd found the sports setting on my camera, letting me take a series of photos click-click-click as the kids were jumping. I don't know if it exactly fits the description - but I'm happy with it! One of the many things I love about the Lord of the Rings are all the songs and verses Tolkien included. This one is short enough that I memorized it years ago. It was written long before Aragorn regained the crown, so I chose greens and browns and shadowy colors (conveniently found in Lauren's Black Forest kit) with the sword and light added. The text border is the verse repeated again in one of the elvish alphabets. Me, Myself.

Designer and/or kit name only.): I was inspired by all the heart-felt journaling you have done this week to explore and share some myself. Including a current photo! Journaling: Me, Myself. Alone. I am, and have always been, single. Solitary. Alone. But not lonely. Single only in that I've never been part of a Couple. Solitary only in that I live by myself. I have Family - as close as a phone call or a short drive. I have Friends - some who count as part of my Family - who I visit with by phone and email, and see in person often, but not always often enough. What I lack, and sometimes I feel it more than other times, is a Partner, a Companion, a Mate. Growing up, I assumed I'd get married and raise a family. That's what happened - that's what you did. I've been a devoted reader of Romances since I was in my teens. I know what the possibilities are. But I have never met anyone who sparked that kind of interest, never found anyone I could imagine being that close to, that open with. When I worry about it, I take comfort from Grandma Chatham's reassurance that when I find the right one, I'll know. And in Cousin Marilyn, who was older than I am now when she married for the first time. I'm beginning to consider matchmaking services. Or just letting friends and family know I'm looking. But that's an idea that needs to mellow and mature a while before I act on it. And I'm not unhappy. I have a good life, and I'm working to improve the parts that could get better still. There's no one act or choice in my past I'd change, to get a better present. If my life continues along this path, I will have no more than mild regrets at the end. But still, I wonder what would it be like, If I weren't Me, Myself. Alone. What I learned at Faire

Designer and/or kit name only.): I decided since I was asking you to tell about yourself, I should too! If I can find some of my Faire photos, I'll make a second page with my photo included. Journaling: I have learned so much from the Renaissance Faire & the Dickens Fair - and certainly not just practical history. When I first started working Faire, a friend & I owned and ran a booth because I couldn�t imagine being a performer. Then I learned English Country Dance - and was invited to dance with the Merrie Pryanksters. In a year or two, I turned the booth over to my friend and became an official Dancer! Then we had a script that called for singing. Well, I�d sung at Girl Scout camps, so I volunteered to be one of the singers. When the dance troupe disbanded, I joined the Irish. The first year I was a dancer and singer. The second year - I was the Song Mistress! It seemed natural enough, after that, to pick up a line or two in the stage play. When we went to little faires, we usually pulled together an improv show - a little singing, a lot of dancing, and a bit of a story to hold it all together. Wonder of wonders - I was now one of the Performers comfortable with being on stage, dancing, singing, speaking lines, even making them up on the spot! In less than ten years I�d gone from audience to participant to performer! I have since entertained both Queen Elizabeth I & Queen Victoria and been interviewed for a Food Network Christmas special. Designer and/or kit name only.): I'm just getting home from spending the day with Mom being "Cultured" - we hit the Monet exhibit at the Legion of Honor, then went and wandered around the de Young. But our first stop was Baker Beach, on the ocean side of the Golden Gate. This is the first time either of us had been around on this side, and I got this photo of the "back side" of the bridge!
