This photo of my niece seemed like a good candidate for a grungy urbanesque style. . LO Notes: 1) My background is a blending of papers and my photo. From bottom up: - urban_grid left as is - urban_grid set to a mulitply blend mode - urban_mesh set to a color burn blend mode - photo is set to B/W and has a zoom blur filter applied to it 2) Another copy of the photo is left as is with my niece extracted and a soft drop shadow applied for depth 3) The splatters are set to an overlay blend mode 4) My title has the urban_mesh paper clipped to it and set to a color burn blend mode over top for some added grunge (it was also flipped and a bit of perspective transforming applied). To get the perspective I rasterized the text first then chose a 'perpective' transformation and using the bottom left box handle dragged straight down to change the perspective. kit: Urban Myths by Robyn Gough edge stamps: Inked Edge Stamps by Robyn Gough fonts: VTKS Rock Garage Band -- VTKS Sonho

11 comments Scrapping4Him Fri, 20 Nov 2009 20:40:49 -0500 Antipasto Salad http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=342259

by: Scrapping4Him

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! I knew I wanted to use the photo of her drawing on the chalkboard, but I unfortunately caught her right at the beginning of her picture and then forgot to take a photo of the finished drawing (bad mama). So I came up with the idea to have Megan draw some of Robyn's fabulous doodle stamps and that's where I began this page. LO Notes: 1) I filled the center portion of the actual chalkboard in the photo with 2 papers blended together. The urban_ink_swirls paper is set to a color burn blend overtop of the urban_chalkboard paper. 2) I used 2 copies of my photo, bottom copy set to B/W and a screen blend mode, top copy left unaltered with the 'chalkboard' area masked off to bring her back in full color 3) The title is a combination of 2 colors, one with some masking to splotch on some color; then it was rasterized and the smudge tool run through it a few times 4) The journaling was cut from the urban_ink_swirls paper and then set to a vivid light blend mode 5) I applied a skew transformation to set my date to look like it was a part of the actual chalkboard in the photo papers: Urban Princess by Robyn Gough swirl stamp: Doodle Bits Stamp Set (weekly freebie) by Robyn Gough title font: Chalk Dust journaling font: VTKS Entulho date font: 1942 Report

7 comments Scrapping4Him Thu, 19 Nov 2009 23:45:42 -0500 Undreamed Shores http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=342138

by: Scrapping4Him

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! Megan would have loved to go down and pet them but that of course is not possible. LO Notes: 1) I clipped my photo to the QC's brushed mask layer, setting the mask to a soft light blend mode. Then I duplicated those 2 layers a couple more times. 2) I used a combination of color burn and soft light blend modes on the splash elements 3) On the star fish element, I duplicated it and set the top copy to a color dodge blend mode 4) The top rusty_seaweed is set to a pin light blend mode 5) I clipped the sea_daisies paper (with a linear burn blend mode at 70% opacity) to the whitewashed_seaweed. In 2007 we were lazy and didn't actually put up our tree so last year (2008) was the first year Megan got to participate in trimming the tree. You can be rest assured Megan will never let us be lazy again :p LO Notes: 1) I used the painted_altered_journal_block as a mat for the photos, setting it to a luminosity blend mode 2) I duplicated the baubles_ona_ribbon and set the top layer to a multiply blend mode 3) For the holly border I first cut the shape out of the lime_leaf paper, then set the border to a luminosity blend mode, then clipped the silver_glitter_overlay to it with a color burn blend mode 4) The wordart is cut from both the lime_leaf paper and crumpled_red_solid paper with the red paper set to a luminosity blend mode and an inner shadow applied 5) The altered_angel_wings were set to a screen blend mode at 80% opacity 6) I used masks and several copies of the silver_glitter_overlay set to a lighten blend mode to "flock" my tree ( which IRL I would never do because I don't care for flocked trees) 7) I set my journaling text to a soft light blend mode, duplicating a few times kit: Its Xmas by Robyn Gough kit: Its Xmas Elements by Robyn Gough grid template (rotated): Cilla QuickClick by Elizabeth Weaver wordart: Christmas Album Titles Wordart by Tina Chambers journaling font: Font - DSP Dilemma by Suzanne Walker date font: Another Typewriter journaling reads: Megan had fun helping us set up the tree and put on all the ornaments. If I had the time I would give myself a day every month to go around to local botanical gardens to enjoy a day of photographing the beauty of nature. Alas, that won't be happening anytime soon so I grasp those moments when I can. LO Notes: 1) The background is a blending of my photo overtop of the autumn_gold paper. I first applied a B/W adj layer set to 60% opacity and then set the photo layer to a softlight blend mode. 2) The border was created to mimic the style of the frames. I simply used masks and a square brush to create it. I used the rusty_sienna paper, set to a multiply blend mode at 60% opacity. I also brought back in more of the full color of the blended photo in the small border. 3) I used a text path to create my round wordart and then set the text to a soft light blend mode 4) I lightly adjusted the hue of the orange_chrysanthemum 5) I did a little distort/perspective transforming for a more accurate perspective of the tag hanging off the twig 6) The date on the hanging tag has a down bevel applied to it and is set to a soft light blend mode at 70% opacity 7) The wordart was recolored and set to a hard light blend mode kit: Harvest Home by Carole Harden wordart: A Season of Wordart by Tina Chambers fonts: Century Gothic -- CK Frankfurt

17 comments Scrapping4Him Sat, 14 Nov 2009 15:42:04 -0500 Imagine the Possiblities... http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=341652

by: Scrapping4Him

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! LO Notes: 1) I used the pretty_blue paper, duplicated and flipped horizontally, for my base paper 2) Then I used masks to add the gorgeous floral patterns of the blue_floral paper around the edges 3) I took a swirly_peacock element, set it to a soft light blend mode, duplicated it 3 times and then masked off the body of the peacock to add those cool feather swirls as a backdrop beneath the green flowers and stapled tags 4) On one of the swirly_peacock elements I recolored the top body portion so that it would show up overtop of the photo kit: Positively Peacock by Heidi Kuester backpack: Positively Peacock Backpack by Heidi Kuester live, laugh, love stapled tags: Gracee Mae by Heidi Kuester template (courtesy of Julia, webfrau - thanks again Julia!!!) font: Font - DSP JJ and the Orange Balloon (Nov 09 Club Digital) by Suzanne Walker

15 comments Scrapping4Him Fri, 13 Nov 2009 20:19:18 -0500 The Bow Bridge in Central Park http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=341514

by: Scrapping4Him

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! WOWOWOW I am loving the elegance mixed with grunge. I used it to scrap a photo I took of people enjoying an afternoon in NYC's Central Park (the bridge is the Bow Bridge). LO Notes: 1) The background is a blend of 2 papers: the sludgy_watercolour_canvas paper set to a darker color blend mode overtop of the blue_letter paper 2) For my blended photo outside the rusted frame, I set a copy to B/W first and then set it to a soft light blend mode, duplicated that once for more clarity - both with the sky masked off 3) I also used the paint_daubs element on the lake portion escaping the rusted frame at the bottom, setting the clipped portion of the photo to a soft light blend mode (duplicated once) 4) Then I used 3 copies of the same photo inside the rusted frame. The bottom copy is set to a soft light blend mode, the middle copy is set to normal at 20% opacity, the top copy is a feathered wide oval of just the center area set to normal at 40% 5) I used the paint_daubs one more time in the upper left corner, setting it to a soft light blend mode with a light hue adjustment (duplicated once) 6) For the dandelions, I used 2 copies, setting the bottom copy to a luminosity blend mode at 70% opacity and the top copy to a multiply blend mode. I flipped the smaller version horizontally in the upper right corner. 7) I used a hue/saturation adj layer to adjust the colors of the butterflies 8) I set the water droplets to a soft light blend mode, duplicating it for more punch 9) The wordart was cut from the thunder_clouds paper and set to a linear burn blend mode kit: Grasmere Value Collection by Erica Belton wordart: Enjoy Life Wordart (formerly part of March 2007 Club Digital, now available for individual purchase) by Tina Chambers fonts: CK Heritage -- CK Invitation

19 comments Scrapping4Him Thu, 12 Nov 2009 16:46:35 -0500 The Land Before Time http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=341445

by: Scrapping4Him

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! Tina's Ever So Value Collection was fun to work with to scrap this special day full of blessings to be thankful for. LO Notes: 1) The very bottom green paper is the green_grunge duplicated and the top layer set to an overlay blend mode for a deeper green 2) I recolored Tina's stitches using a solid color overlay set to a linear burn blend mode to coordinate with the kraft_grunged paper they were securing (I also masked away the excess strings at the end) 3) I set the grungy_edge border element to an overlay blend mode 4) I set Tina's tree element to a darker color blend mode at 50% opacity, then used some of her falling leaves down below it 5) I used the granny_smith and green_grunge papers in the four_pack_frame 6) To get the stripes on the four squares, I used a small strip of the apple_red_dots paper and set it to an overlay blend mode and then duplicated it and roughly spaced them apart and then distributed the spacing between the horizontal centers of them to get an accurate distribution of spacing. 7) I set the thankful wordart to a soft light blend mode at 50% opacity; then I took another copy of the wordart and left it unblended but at 50% opacity, mask away to only have one phrase be highlighted 8) My journaling is done the same way as the wordart kit: Ever So Value Collection by Tina Chambers stitches: Spot A Lot (Scraps of Style CD: Perfect Patterns -- also available for individual purchase) by Tina Chambers tree: Another Midsummer Dream by Tina Chambers font: Century Gothic

11 comments Scrapping4Him Wed, 11 Nov 2009 01:48:16 -0500 Timeless Treasures http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=341289

by: Scrapping4Him

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! Add to that Robyn's cool graphically challenged tutorial this month, which has been super fun to try out the different types of blur filters in my CS3. I love how it looks like the inside of a pipe. 2) I used the bursting_brown paer as my 'door' and took 2 copies of the metal_tag to create one not bent for my door sign 3) I created an arrow using my CS3 shapes and then applied a down bevel and set it to a lighten blend mode 4) I lightly adjusted the hue of the fire hydrant so it wasn't so bold 5) I took a Alfred Hitchcock silhouette I found on the web to use on the newsprint_hanging_sign 6) On the right page, I used the city_scape paper as my base but then used a very small bit of the old_wall paper used on the left page 7) To my photo I used again Robyn's tutorial and applied a motion blur to create the effect that the train they are on is in motion - LOL I love that Hitchcock is in the last car reading a newspaper  8) I used layer masks to position the hanging_lights so they didn't interfere with my journaling kit: Urban Decay by Nicole Young kit: Urban Decay - Elements by Nicole Young kit: Concrete Jungle by Nicole Young title fonts: DSP Misteltoe Capers by Suzanne Walker -- Broadway journaling/date font: Comfortaa font on door sign: Stencil journaling reads: We took in the whodunit masterpiece, The 39 Steps, by Alfred Hitchcock at the Helen Hayes Theatre. I used it here with her Snap Happy Traveler Large Value Collection to scrap some of our recent NYC visit pics. I had the most fun photographing the amazing architecture and Central Park of this fantastic city. I look forward to a return visit. LO Notes: 1) I used the cracked_wall paper to add 'bark' to Z's tree and then added a drop shadow which I also did some warping on. 2) I duplicated the grass border and then set the top layer to a soft light blend mode at 80% opacity kit: Snap Happy Traveller - Large Value Collection by Meryl Bartho stiched skyline silhouette: Stiched Silhouettes by Meryl Bartho tree: Summer Twilight by Elizabeth Weaver fonts: LD Remington Portable -- Bernhard Modern Std

2 comments Scrapping4Him Sat, 24 Oct 2009 01:20:12 -0400
