They had a Christmas market but we spend more time walking in the park then looking at the Christmas decorations. It was a very rare sunny fall day and the park was so beautiful covered in all kinds of red and orange colors. I used Meryl’s beautiful and very versatile Snap Happy Traveller Value Collection for this layout. The vintage elements and the deep red background paper seemed perfect together with the photo from this old and beautiful place. I really like the lamppost in the kit so I started by adding that to my page and then build the rest of the layout around it. I did some minor adjustments to the kit where the main one is that I recolored the flowers from red and blue to a more fall like red and yellow to match my photo. An easy way of making your favorite kits work for more then just a single season. I blended a photo in the background to add some depth. For extra detail I used one of Meryl’s Stitched Silhouettes. For me stitches is one of the must have things at the moment, perhaps because I’ve lately leaned towards a more paperlike style then the graphic. Crisp blue sky and a beautiful fall sun making embracing everything with a golden touch. So when I bought Lauren’s beautiful Rustic Touch kit I knew I had to go back a couple of years to find the perfect fall photo to use with it and I had this particular one in mind, taken at the beach just as the sun was setting. It was the blue and golden colors of the kit that instantly made me think of this photo. A photo I was very proud of since it was the first ‘good’ photo I took on manual settings and not just rely on auto. But here are the photos from November 9th and 10th. For those of you who haven’t seen Janet & Kim’s Fill The Next Frame challenge you really should check it out and see if it is something you’d like to do next month. Just find a partner and topic and you are good to go and perhaps even get ready to start a 365 photos starting January. I’m beginning to think that I might be able to do it after taking photos for the first two weeks of November. I realized that if I wasn’t so critical about my photos it didn’t feel like a burden after only two days and I would get them taken every day. Another thing I’ve discovered these two weeks is that if I follow a certain pattern when I unload my photos I get them finished in no time. For example using a template to get them ready for print/uploading to DSP and what could be more obvious then to use Kim’s own Story*Board Picture Pairs quick click? I’ve just put of two of them together here for display here at DSP but they will be printed individually. And now that I’m obviously writing a lot today, can I just share one other little thing I’ve learned from this challenge or actually it’s more a thing I’m taking with me once the challenge ends. I don’t think I’ve fully understood until now how small the world has become after I began scrapping. Suddenly communicating with people all over the world is an everyday thing. We are witnesses to each other’s ups and downs through our layouts. We share our daily life with each other while creating beautiful layouts. Now if that isn’t a small wonder in itself I don’t know what is. I’m truly grateful for finding a way to be creative and to be a part of such a wonderful community. Okay I’ll get down from my soapbox now and go to bed. :) PRODUCTS: Story*Board Picture Pairs by Kim Liddiard

2 comments Jeanet Fri, 13 Nov 2009 18:57:56 -0500 Glaenoe http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=341633

by: Jeanet

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! The place had such a wild beauty. It wasn’t easy to go there and with the sea bashing up against the cliffs it felt like going abroad. We went there a lot when I was a kid. This particular trip was together with friends of my family. So that’s me on the far left, our friend Daggi, my brother Tom and Daggi’s sister Maiken. The photo and the memory of this place reminded me of Heidi’s Mocha Blues kit. An unconventional beauty with a touch of grungy elegance. I combined the kit with Heidi’s Victorian Quick Bits masks which have the same sort of grungy elegance as the kit has. The kit from the new Birthdays CD was perfect for this adorable photo of Xander playing with just one of the many gifts he got that day. The CD is packed full of goodies and will satisfy any birthday kit need you’ll ever have. I really liked the inspiration piece and decided to do use it as a template for my layout. I LOVE circles and the possibilities it gives on the square ‘canvas’ a layout really is. I used Christine’s Alizarin Moments kits which have already moved to the All-Time-Favorites folder on my hard drive. I simply love the colors and design of the kit. JOURNALING: We’ve known Brian since 2000 where he and Flemming started at the same school. Of course I didn’t know Flemming back then but met Brian through another friend that were in the same class as the two of them but didn’t get to know Flemming until after I started dating him. Just another proof of how small the world really is. We took the long trip to Jutland to attend Brian & Marias wedding at Aadum church. After the ceremony we went to the reception at Marias parents place and ended the day at the beautiful Forest pavilion at Skjern. I was feeling a little cold this evening so I found one of the many photos from trips to the sea this summer and for a couple of hours while working on this layout, I actually didn’t feel that cold any longer. I used a number of brushes on the photo of Xander and his mother Susanne to get the texture almost like an oil painting. I duplicated the photo and kept the top photo as my photo layer and the bottom one for blending using one of Marcee’s Clipping Masks. The background already had some texture to it and hints of color but the blending photo helped me fill the layout a bit more. I used the sea spray from Laurens Sunset Coast kit but also extracted some from another photo to use around the pebbles and the sailboat. Furthermore I used a cloud overlay and pool ripples from the Wishing Pool kit to add extra texture to the area beneath the photo. The rest was simply placing the different elements and trying to convince myself it was time to stop! I didn’t want to a heavy title for this light layout so I kept it simple with just the date and Tina’s Sentimental overlay which I recolored and erased parts of it for effect. My husband’s paternal grandmother is a very unique woman and I respect so much for everything she has done and everything she will do in the future. We are blessed that she lives right around the corner from us so we get to see her often. We help her but not nearly as much as she helps us. JOURNALING: Henny is now 76 years old. Behind her lies all the years where she worked harder then most of us would do today. She has taken on any challenge that life has had to offer her with a courage most of us can only dream about. And she has needed that courage when she first saw her son and later her husband of many years loose the battle to cancer. And yet she has remained the most loving and caring grandmother, a role model to the younger generations and most importantly our friend. She is a one of a kind woman and I’m deeply thankful to have met her and have as a part of my life. A beautiful but extremely cold day. We spend the morning at a museum, the afternoon walking around the streets and the evening at Tivoli, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks. Of course I took a million photos and deciding which photos to use for this two page layout wasn’t at all easy. In fact I haven’t used a single photo from Tivoli so I guess I need to turn this into a 3 page layout. I’m no good at making two page layouts or for that matter using so many photos so I did what I always do. I used a quick click. The right side of the layout is Tina’s Quick Six QC while the left side is using just parts of the QC, rotated a bit. Photos on the left side: the National museum. (There’s something about long hallways like this that has always fascinated me). Amalienborg, home of our Queen Margrethe (and yes, she was home that particular day). The King’s Square with the royal theatre in the background. Axel square with the Ferris wheel and finally the statue of our former king Frederik IX. Photos on the right side: Our stock exchange market called Børsen. A particular part of the harbor called Nyhavn which is the place people meet with friends all year long and sit at the small cafés. Next is the Opera house and Frederiks canal that surrounds Christiansborg Castle (the next photo), home of our government. And finally one of the many ships at Langelinie which is also the home of the little mermaid statue that thousands of Japanese tourists take photos off every year. So now you’ve had a little tour of the Danish capital Copenhagen as well. :) PRODUCTS: Crossroads by Lauren Bavin Time and Again by Lauren Bavin Quick Six quick click by Tina Chambers

6 comments Jeanet Thu, 22 Oct 2009 16:43:07 -0400 Survivor http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=338803

by: Jeanet

Description & Credits (Please give credit if you use the work of others! The challenge was to write about what we are survivors from and I’m not quite ready yet to share my story but although it was really late and I was really tired, thanks to Sharon, words starting running wild in my head and I stayed up half the night writing like a crazy woman about what ‘survivor’ means to me. Today I’ve spend yet another night on editing it down to something that might make sense to others then my self. So thank you Sharon for the most mind opening and really heart opening chat ever and for the inspiration. JOURNALING: I am still standing at the doorway to Life. At just 29 I’ve got a life ahead of me filled with joys and laughter, fears and pain. Good times will occasionally be interrupted by bad times. My great grandmother’s generation secured voting rights for woman, my grandmother’s generation send the first woman out to work and my mother’s generation secured equal rights in more areas then ever before. In each their ways, they have secured women’s rights. As I take these first steps into life it doesn’t take long for me to know what my generation’s role will be; the right to a long life where sickness can be conquered and battles won. There are so many uncertainties in life and although I don’t want to plan my life around the risk of bad things happening I cannot walk through life blindfolded. For each step I take in this so-called Life I need to do what I can to stay one step ahead of the dangers life has to offer. I’m not a scientist. I know nothing about genes or anything that might someday save someone else. But I know math and understand the statistic I, as woman, for every healthy day I live avoid becoming a part of. At 22 I took my first step towards being a survivor when I took part in a study of a vaccine that will be able to prevent some forms of cancer. I was relieved when I after 3 years in the study learned that I had in fact received the vaccine and excited when it was decided that all girls should have it as one of their mandatory vaccines. This gives me so much hope for the future. Now all I can hope is that we in my generation will experience other vaccines being found so that the next generation of women can live long lives a bit more carefree then earlier generations and find their own rights to fight for. I will continue to work towards being a survivor and should I ever fall and need someone to pick me up, I shall turn to the generations of women before me, that dedicated their lives to make sure my life would be just a bit easier for inspiration. I lost my youngest aunt a few months ago. It happened so suddenly that it not only left her husband and sons in shock but also, including me, the rest of the family. She was only 49. The photo isn’t the best one of her but it was the last one. I took it at my husband’s birthday party a couple of weeks before her death. In the years to come 2009 will be remembered as the year she died and I wanted to make a beautiful and to me, meaningful layout which the subtle beauty of Carole’s Peaceful Green helped me to do. Simple, beautiful and elegant, just as my aunt would have liked it. JOURNALING: Not even two weeks after this photo was taken my Aunt Lis died suddenly and quite unexpectedly at the age of 49. It was hard to us all loosing her and I am going to miss her. I’ll miss the warm afternoons in the garden with strawberry pie and smalltalk. Christmas Eves and the smell of her kitchen. Even the odd remarks she’d make which would make my temper up. I will her smile that always reminded me of grandmother but most of all I’ll just miss her. Working with this photo I realized two things. First of all how bad the quality is despite that it is taken with a high end point and shoot digital camera (high end for 2006 that is) and secondly that I had no idea what I was doing with a camera in terms of composing. In the original photo I’ve cut of the left foot entirely so I had to clone in a new foot. It has been just 3 short years but both technology and I have improved so much that it might as well have been a decade ago this photo was taken. It was such a beautiful sight so I wanted to make the photo the main feature on my layout. I’ve used Meryl’s Vintage Paper kit a couple of times before for heritage layouts but this kit is so much more then just heritage. I blended my photo with the torn music sheet from the kit to add a bit of texture to the photo. I just adore this photo, they all look so polished and everything matches. I’m sure this doesn’t depict the family’s reality back then with them growing up at the countryside during WWII. But they are a good looking family as they sit there together. I used Lauren’s Crossroads kit which is a delightful kit, good for both heritage and fall layouts with it’s subtle colors and patterns. I made the quilt effect by cutting the teal paper in a harlequin pattern flipping it horizontal to make the pattern different from top and bottom layer. I then cut the brads from the rusty brads element in the kit and used them to pin down the top layer. I added a drop shadow to the top layer and used the burn tool underneath the brads to make it a bit more dimensional. For some reason they always fall to the bottom of the pile of photos I need to scrap so for me Club Digital by the DSP Designers is a huge help. Buller and I spend a lot of time in September out in the garden, just enjoying life, throwing the ball, look up at the sky, throwing the ball, resting and throwing the ball. Yes, when it comes to entertainment Buller is pretty one-sided :) But he is still such a good dog. It’s so long ago now that I made this layout which I worked on for quite some time, going back and forward tweaking things until I felt that it had the right ‘feeling’. It is in many ways a tribute to my father and the fact that I know he’s up there looking out for me. The day after my father died it had been raining all morning when around noon (almost the exact time he was taken from the hospital to the church) the sun came out and the sky was lit up with the most beautiful rainbow I've ever seen.
