Designer and/or kit name only.): My attempt at DET Bootcamp to use a brightly-colored kit. ** in response to Mariafer's comment about the sun-flare on the photo.... The sun-flare was part of the photo. My DD managed to capture it pretty well, but it left her face a bit washed out, so i used [url="http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34374"]a simple technique learned from Nicole Young[/url] to add a bit of contrast to it. Be-Muse Me 2. Graphically Challenged This is also a DET9 scraplift of Sands Healy's gorgeous page [url="http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=334200"]Shine[/url] ***Technique: ~ I ran the photo through a b&w Virtual Photographer filter called 'detailed' and lowered the exposure compensation until I achieved the contrast I liked (-15 I believe), then duplicated the photo. ~ I sandwiched the bottom copy of the photo between 2 copies of Robyn's greenqueenannelace bg, and set the blend mode of the top copy of the bg to 'lighten'. ~ using a layer mask, I masked out the hard edges on the sandwiched photo using a very soft brush. I finished with this layer by reducing the opacity to about 60%. ~ with the top photo copy, I selected the face, inverted the selection, and deleted the unwanted portion of the photo. Sadly, I could not work in that wonderful Alpha, but rest assured, I WILL find a use for it soon! :) Techniques used: For the photo, I sandwiched it between 2 copies of the green bg paper, reduced it's opacity, erased the hard edges, then set the blend mode of the top copy of the green bg to 'soft light'. The only other blending I did on this layout was to the 'stax3' overlay. I set its blend mode to 'overlay' over the top copy of the green bg. Designer and/or kit name only.): When I discovered which kit we would be using, I actually panicked for almost half an hour! I browsed through 3 years of kid pictures, coming up empty-handed, just totally stressed out. Then.....inspiration struck! (sans-alcohol, too, I'm proud to say ;) ) I had been fiddling & playing with this photo of my step-dad's '56 Chevy for a couple of days last week. We may have clashing personalities, but I'm so often blown away by his skill at taking a classic, begun often as just a heap of rusted metal, or warped & rotting wood, and transforming it into a creation of beauty that leaves most classic-era autophiles drooling in the wake of his exhaust pipes. For the photo: Originally, this photo included a 1954 Century mahogany boat on a trailer (which Dad also restored himself), but I really wanted to focus on the truck, so I extracted the truck from the main photo and placed it on its own layer and then duplicated that layer. I then went back to the photo layer, and using VP filters, did a sepia filter, duplicated that layer and applied the 'newsprint' filter. I then applied a Gaussian blur at about 15, set the overlay mode to 'Linear burn' and reduced opacity to my liking. Going back to the extractions, I set the blend mode of the top extraction to 'color burn', and merged it with the bottom extraction. Using a scalloped mat shape, I made a white one, set it behind my photo/extraction, and adjusted the edges of the photo to make it look like it was all one piece. I remember my Grammie had photobooks full of these scalloped-edge photos, and I wanted to keep with the 'aged' theme of the photo. The drop shadow was added last by making a triangular selection using the polygonal lasso tool, filling the selection on a new layer, blurring and warping to make it look as if the corner was 'lifted' by the flower/bead on the wire element. I then burned the tip of the corner a bit, then did a small, light amount of dodging just below that. For the layout: Really, the only adjustments made on the kit were to cut a strip of the striped paper and add a drop shadow, and to resize the grungy paper, rotate & add drop shadow to it. I tucked the journaling mat & circular frame elements behind my photo, rotating the mat a bit. With the glitter glue, I just duplicated and flipped a couple of times. I also erased a portion of a top copy of the beaded wire to tuck the flower & bead under the edge of the photo. See above for drop shadow technique. :) Journaling: Dad's talent, and obsession, is rebuilding classics. This is his 1956 Chevrolet pickup. I wish I had photos of the rest of his amazing projects. I found some free watercolor brushes a while back, so gave them a try. It looked horrible at full opacity, so I lowered it wayyyy down. Then I pulled in the grunge overlay set at hard light, the texture overlay on top of that set to linear light, reduced opacity to 75%. Walker Journaling: This little blue jay is such a brat. I constantly see him hanging from my bird feeder outside my window, but as soon as I reach for my camera, he's off and gone. I finally tricked him by sitting very still on my back porch one morning. When he finally realized I was sitting there he veered off and alighted on the power lines at the end of my driveway, where he then commenced to cussing me out in birdspeak.
