Entry for Round 2 of the DET contest featuring Lauren's wonderfully delightful kit "Bright Summer Days" and her "Tiddlywinks" alpha.

This is such an incredibly fun kit! I love working with bright colors and every single item in Lauren's kit just begs to be used! But since I'd already purchased her kit as soon as it came out, and had already used it for a freestyle fandango layout I wanted to do something different this time and show how well her kit lends itself to every kind of freestyle, paper, or graphic style.

So, taking a slightly different approach....this bit of whimsy is the result of "Lauren Meets Dr. Seuss"!!!!
Thank you SO much Lauren for making such a wonderful kit and inspiring this layout!!!!

The picture was taken at my son's birthday party when he and his friend Andrew were in the first grade. What fun memories!! Now the boys are well on their way to those Great Places and are juniors in high school together.

Jounaling (from the book by Dr. Seuss)
"Oh the places you'll go! There is fun to be done. There are points to be scored, there are games to be won.
You won't lag behind, because you'll have speed. You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be the best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
So be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai.
You're off to Great Places! Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...be on your way!"

Techniques:
The canopy and layers of the "mountain" were cut from pieces of the papers. The poles of the canopy are the stems of the flower, resized and recolored. The yellow circles were cut from one of the elements and recolored. The "head doodle" is from the flower.

To achieve the "book effect" I took a picture of my son's yearbook (it was the perfect color and shape) extracted it and layered it on the yellow background paper. Then I layered my layout on top of that and gently warped it into place. Sort of a layout within a layout. It was a fun learning experience!!!

I love that book! We got Joey a bunch of Dr. Suess books before he was born. Chris read him "If I ran the circus" in the hospital. Oh this isn't about me, is it? *lol* But I love this layout, and it brings back so many good memories for me. Thank you for that!

wow you are amazing. This is so unique. I love the whimsy of a storybook theme to go with the whimsical kit. You did a great job making the text follow the spiral. Love the little scalloped canopy. This looks so cute and simple but at the same time it looks like you put a lot of work into it. Awesome.
