Journaling reads: Oh my sweet baby boy, born 5 weeks early. You went through so much. This is one of my favorite pictures of you and I. It was taken in the NICU five days after you were born. This picture doesn’t show the NG tube or the wires connected to all the monitors – it just shows the sweetest cuddle time ever! You were just learning to breastfeed and so after I fed you I would have to go pump. When I would return to your bedside you were almost always sleeping. The doctors and nurses wanted you to sleep as much as possible so I would have to wait to hold you. That was so hard – all I wanted to do was pick you up and cuddle you. When those cuddle times did come, you were so snuggly. As in this picture, you would curl right up on my chest and fall asleep. Sometimes I wondered and worried that you wouldn’t know that I was your mommy. I was so afraid that you would be confused because you had so many wonderful nurses. But you had your own little way of showing me you knew. A few times you were fussy and when I would pick you up you would instantly stop. It made my day when I could be there to comfort you and tell you how very much I love you! I was so happy to bring you home and hold you and cuddle you! - Mommy
