Later in San Gimignano, we explored the town on our own, going to the top of the hill to the ruined castle. From there the stunning vistas of the Tuscany countryside, as well as the 13 towers built by rival noble families during the 12th & 13th centuries were clearly visible.



In this small medieval town, like Siena, we found a wealth of unique and artistic Tuscan pottery which Laurie, Lynn and Beth all purchased.



It was shortly before our stop here that we realized we would not be getting back to Florence at 3:30 as stated in our confirmation – but rather closer to 6 pm – which would scarcely leave us enough time to change for the opera and dinner we had planned for that evening. Kim
