FROM THE BOOK "LANGUAGE OF THE SYCAMORES" by Lisa WIngate

“The other day, I was out in the back lot behind the church, back near that hill where the kids play in the sand sometimes. It’s a funny thing about kids— you can make them all the clean sandboxes in the world, and they’ll still prefer an old hill of real, one hundred percent dirt.

“It’s been kind of a dry spring so far, so we haven’t had to do much mowing out in the back lot, but we finally had some rain a few weeks ago, praise the Lord. So I went out to mow, and I saw all of these old buckets, pots, and pans the kids had left sitting around near their dirt pile. And you know, as I looked around, I noticed something. The perfect ones had caught the rainwater and held it until it became stagnant and black. All the grass around them was dead. The containers that were dented or cracked or had holes had probably caught rainwater as well, but they had poured the water out through the holes. There was no stagnant water in them, and the grass around them was growing.

“It's the same with people. It’s those little nicks and dents and imperfections of spirit that allow us to flow out into a thirsty world. It’s our scars that allow us to relate to the scars of others, our suffering that connects us to others who suffer.

“Consider for yourselves which life you’d rather have, which vessel you’d rather be. Perfect? Or imperfect? Ready to hold in everything that comes your way or ready to pour out and be refilled with each new rain? Closed to the world...or open to the possibilities...” -Brother Baker

This is a fabulous layout - absolutely wonderful. And the whole book is fantastic, but that particular passage - I want to etch it on my soul it is so beautiful!

Thanks for the sweet comments. The written passage came from a day when I had writer's block, which doesn't happen too often. That day, I gave up trying to figure out what the country pastor should say during an important scene in The Language of Sycamores. I gave up that day and went out into the yard to do some mowing, and saw the "yard art" (otherwise known as junk dragged from the house, garage, and elsewhere) the boys had left out in the yard. The idea for the "rusty buckets" sermon came to me as I was looking at their collection of sandpile treasures!

Great layout!! I am sure that Grandma Rose would love this. The Rusty Bucket Sermon reminds me of a poem that I have saved somewhere (the cracked pot). Love the layout but loved the book even more.

This is gorgeous WW! Certainly something that needs to be printed, framed, and hanging on a wall. Beautifully done.
