Do you still have the spinning wheel I wonder- my SIL has the family one. This is such an interesting picture of not so long ago. How times have changed.

I am not sure about the spinning wheel, but I know that their loom is dissasembled in my great-uncles attic and my MIL also has hers in her attic. Neither one of them has been used for a long time, but my MIL used to weave when she was young and this was later - about 1965 to 1970.

Great job! I have just recently inherited our family spinning wheel. It is a "Great Wheel" and is in need of a bit of repair. My mother thinks I should start spinning!

This caught my eye right away as my husband is Slovak. We have lots of those old pictures from Europe and later in PA after they came over through Ellis Island. I don't think anyone in his family did spinning, but our last name is Pasterik, which means "Little Shepherd", so I assume somewhere along the line, there were sheep and wool and therefore spinners. Great jog on this!

have things really changed that much, Natalie? or are the women still wearing their head scarves? I love spinning, it's very peaceful and so is weaving, though I don't have the wheel anymore. My kids do. Love this precious photo, it shows so much history in their dresses and being a genealogist, I am always interested. Love your layout, the elements are perfectly placed and the colors are perfect, perfect, perfect.

Ladies are rarely spinning these days, those a few have pulled up the old looms and are weaving rag-carpets. But all older ladies still wear the national dresses and scarves like you see on the pictures. I will have to find some pictures and make a few layouts to show you how our old women still dress.

I am a spinner-- and this was a Beautiful LO....Yes, alot of things have changed-- but spinning wheels remain pretty much the same....It's a beautiful wheel-- and if you have it-- try to spin-- you won't regret it.
