Little Explorer Value Collection by Nicole Young

Grandpa Sam Otto was a famous prospector and miner in Yellowknife during its heyday. He built this log cabin and filled it full of his collections. Most of his things are now in the Yellowknife archives. Sam’s cabin was moved in 2000 from it’s original site on Latham Island to near the sewage lagoon in Yellowknife.

I need some CC here... something's not right. I think I need some elements... any ideas?

Edited to add that this is my next version and I'm happy with it other than needing more journalling. I need to get the info from my FIL for that.

I love the black & white picture mixed in. I prefer the text towards the outside edges rather than in the middle. At least, that is the rule that was drilled in my head during HS publications class. See if that makes you happier. I love the blank upper left corner.

I love elements but I've found scrapping to be one's own personal preferences so you have to find what makes you happy I know that there are some great kits with "rusted" elements that would go great with this. Great job! I love the cabin!!

Wonderful photos. Here is my CC. Make one photo larger and the two other smaller. Instead of that empty space in the left upper corner, put the title (even if in two rows or vertical with some alpha or chunkier font). And if you want do put a bit of elements just tucked behind the large photo or the smaller two - maybe some wild grass, tiny flowers or a neutral ribbon . Great beginning.

I like what you have Addie, I agree with Taly on the placement..

But, there are a lot of elements in nicole's kit that you could add in..

maybe if you used some of Taly's suggestions - add in the frame or photo corners (I don't own the kit - but just looking at it - they might work... )

Maybe darking the edges of the outside of the layout would help too..

There is a dirt covered canvas that might be able to me "masked in" ..

There is a butterfly, a twig.. something like that.. to add to the outdoor feel..

But, you have to love it.. not me.

I love that you have documented something that is really important to you.. and that's the real point of scrap booking.

the rest, is totally up to you...

I do love the photos you have and I agree with the suggestions everyone else has made... I would definitely make one of the photos larger, the one you want the most focus to be on... and I would love to see one of the other photos under that microscope...

You could also expand on the journalling (tell more of the story), why they moved the house, how long he lived there, etc...

but the biggest thing is to make yourself happy! You're off to a great start!

I need to get more information on the story of the cabin... I'm working on that, but I needed to get something there as a placeholder. Thanks for all the CC! Very helpful.

Looks better now, but I would use some other font for the title, something chunkier, less feminine looking.

I think once you get the journaling, it should be great. I might change the title to the bottom right of the large photo. But that's just me. Love how you placed the older photo under the glass.

I love your photos of the dilapidated barns. Love that you put the one photo under the magnifying glass, too. Very cool stuff. I also love all the suggestions.......the folks here are so smart.
