This LO started out for the "How they Met" challenge but I sort of changed direction and made a layout to honour my parents wonderful marriage - lots of time and love went into this...
Funny, the thing that took probably the longest was the postmark thingy in the top right hand corner. I used text on and in paths to shape tis and journaling layers.
Made with my kit ”Beads & Things”
The dried roses (bottom left) are from my kit "Collectors Tray for the Garden"
Journaling reads:
At the end of the Second World War, on his discharge from the army, Dad arrived in Pietermaritzburg to take up a position in the audit section of the Natal Provincial Administration. ‘Maritzburg was full of returning soldiers – all of whom were searching for a place to stay. Fortunately, he asked his colleague, Ted Dibben’ s advice, and even more fortunately, he directed Dad to a Mrs. Maud Cox, at 331 Bulwer Street, a lady whom he knew took in borders - that lady ended up being my grandmother! Coincidentally, the day he arrived (2nd Nov., 1945) was the day before Gaga’s birthday! It was not an instant romance, they enjoyed each others company and socialized in a group, finally becoming engaged on 12th May 1946 and married on 1st January, 1947. What a wonderful example of married life my Mum and Dad were, it is hard to imagine anyone who took the marriage vows as seriously as they did – to this day, years after Mum’s death, dad still cherishes her memory with roses beside he photo each day. Lyn, Phil and I grew up in the most wonderfully secure environment, never for a moment doubting either their love for each other, or their love for us – one could feel the surrounding love. Maybe this is why; even today Lyn, Phil and I are so very close? The moment any one of us has any sort of problem, although we live in different cities, it seems that within minutes the word out and help and advice, welcome or not…… is soon forthcoming!
They, have been great role models for Ray and myself too, we too have tried and continue to try to give Kate and Raewyn a positive marriage role model to follow - our prayer is that our marriages will all be blessed as Dad and Mum’s were.
Thank you Dad and Mum for all you have given us all.

The design of the page is top notch, as I would expect, but the journaling! Wow! You have captured a wonderful feel for these two people, especially how their love continued as your dad continued his devotion after your mother was gone. Their story just chokes me up.

Oh, this is really wonderful Meryl! The journaling is so straight from the heart which is so important in scrapbooking. A wonderful page that will be handed down through generations. These two wonderful people and their story will not be lost but will be treasured forever.

Awesome tribute and such a wonderful layout. How fortunate you've been with such lovely memories! My parents also had such a loving relationship, but they died young -- and two of my three brothers have distanced themselves from family. Life is sometimes a puzzle -- I so enjoy your layouts, Meryl!
