I managed to take a nice photo of the Eiffel Tower when we were in Paris on vacation recently—I’m more the “happy snaps” kind of photographer usually—and it inspired me to create this layout. We went all the way to the top of the Tower and got to see spectacular views of Paris, and it's something I'll always remember.

I used the tutorial which I’d used before for my Heart of Old Town layout--http://katiepertiet.typepad.com/designerdigitals_weblog/2012/08/in-the-studio-painting-in-progress.html. I used quite a few more layers than she uses, but that is how I created most of the basic layers. I’m using this for the Item of the Week Challenge and for Taly’s Graphically Challenged—we can choose to do any challenge from the past year, so I went back to July 2012 and the blend modes challenge. I only used the Foliage Blender from the Lauren Bavin’s Floral Whispers Kit, but it was a vital part of this layout and I used it several times around the page at different opacities. As for the blend modes, I used a Darken blend mode on the top layer of the title, and an Overlay blend mode on the Roughly Sponged Inky Edges overlay, a Darken blend mode on the Deco Edge Overlay, a Soft Light blend mode on one layer of just the ink outlines of the photo, a Hard Mix Overlay on another layer of the ink outlines, and a Linear Burn blend mode on Tall Splatter Mask layer, which I grouped with a color “drawing” version of the photo. I also used a layer of the original photo on top at 72% opacity, erased to only show up on the middle portion of the Tower/Sky. I painted in a bit more color with a watercolor brush that comes with Photoshop Elements and added Lauren Bavin’s Just Perfect Wordart from her Not Just Wordart. The background for the layout is the Valentine Neutral from the Valentine Themed Set--Love - You and Me Page Kit created by Meryl Bartho. The title/date font is the same as Lauren used in her wordart—Porcelain. Please click on the underlined links to be taken to the kits I used for this layout, and thanks for looking!

Just plain awesome! Love how you did the blending. Makes Paris look a bit surreal. Which of course, it is when you're vacationing there. (smile)
