The best width I found is 2". It allows you to still read most journaling. The big white blocks are the child's name blocked out for privacy purposes on the web. My girls absolutely LOVED these! These would also be great gifts to give to an avid book reader (such as myself).

these are fun! i hadn't thought to scrap a layout on a bookmark! i had just dropped single photos onto bookmarks which can give you fairly dramatic slices of a photo (works out to 2x8 on my printer). these would be great easy christmas gifts. and i recognize most of the layouts you put on these bookmarks!

I love the bookmarks. I recently bought a cold laminator for another project and love the little machine. I thought I might make bookmarks, so I was glad to see some of yours.

This is so funny I was reading everyone's responses and was thinking about making these for gifts never thinking about making one for myself - I usually just use scratch paper. I think I will have to make one for myself. Thanks for the idea.

These would be great to use for package tie-ons, too--work as a tag for the gift, then as a bookmark after the gift is opened. Hmmm, better get started.
