Letter
from Team Digital – Beth (Corgi Lover)
Wow!
It is already March
2012. Where has the time gone? If you find it, let me know so I can try
to catch up! I must say I am excited that it is March as springtime is
just about here. The sun is so warm when it hits your face and the
birds just sound happy, it really puts a smile on my face. I love to go
outside in the sun and just listen to the nature that surrounds me. I
would like to share a fun quote with you below:
Spring
is nature's way
of saying, "Let's party!" ~Robin Williams

It is a time of
rejuvenation, rebirth, fresh beginnings and it really
does make me feel like having a party. I definitely get an antsy
feeling of spring fever. When this happens I usually become very
productive in almost anything I tackle. Even in my scrapping world, I
tend to scrap a lot during this time. How does springtime affect you? I
hope to see you scrapping in the galleries and sharing your favorite
parts of springtime. I will be on the watch for your layouts on what
springtime is like for you or what it inspires in your life. Share your
stories and record these memories for generations to come! Happy Spring
and happy scrapping!

Member Spotlight -
Jill
|
March's DSP Member Spotlight is the hugely talented evergreen100 or "Just Plain Jill".
Check out her gallery here.
|
 |
Jill says she is: a paper style scrapper (even though I have
never paper scrapped). I love lots of layers and elements. I try to
achieve a 'touchable' style with realistic depth
using layers, shadows, 3D elements. I love to look at and play at
graphic LOs but am not comfortable in that style. I would love to
become proficient at it though. In contradiction to my fetish for
heavily layered pages, I also love white space layouts.
Describing herself as quite shy, very under confident, very indecisive,
she points out that on the upside, she is a dedicated wife, mother,
grandmother and friend.
With many Hall Of Fame layouts to her credit, Jill says she mostly
starts with the photos. "Then search for the kit...and here is an
example of my indecisiveness as it takes forever for me to decide which
kit to use. I rarely mix and match kits for that very reason.”
Thank you for sharing your talent with us, Jill. Now that you find out more about March's talented DSP Member
Spotlight, visit the Spotlight page.
Then join the Scraplift the Spotlight Challenge for your chance to win a lucky draw DSP Store Voucher.

Another
Way of Getting Organized
We all know that once
the honeymoon phase is over the hard work begins. It's really no
different with digital scrapbooking. When you've just discovered it,
you buy and create, buy and create and then you buy and create some
more until your hard drives are filled. This is your honeymoon phase!
Once it's over it is time to ask yourself an important question. To tag
or not to tag? Tagging your supplies can be a daunting task especially
since most of us don't realize we need to until we've got a crazy
amount of stuff that needs to be sorted.
The whole tagging process has been covered in earlier articles so for
this time I'm going to let you in on how I organize my kits because I
am not a tagger. I've tried! I've tried several times thinking it was
the right thing to do or I would never be able to find anything. I
spend hour after hour tagging just to realize that not once did I
actually perform a search. I never know what I want to use next. If you
are a tagger just ignore me but if you are still not sure how to
organize your supplies and know you won't be able to keep your system
up to date then read along.
My system is actually pretty simple. Whenever I download a new product
it ends up in a 'New Products' folder. Whenever I buy a new product I
know I'll be using it a lot for a while so I might as well keep it
handy. Once its time to move on I move it to a main folder sorted by
the designer's name. In each main folder I have five sub folders named
after the four seasons and an extra for all the stuff that isn't kits
and elements.
So basically my folders would look like this
DSP Designers
Nicole Young
1. Spring
2. Summer
3. Fall
4. Winter
5. Layout
helpers
So how do I decide which folder the kit should go in? Well, the themed
kits are easy but for the rest of them it is all about the colors.
Pastels belong in Spring, strong, bright colors in summer, muted browns
and greens in fall and everything white and black in the winter folder.
And that's it! That's all there is to the system but I've used it for
years now and it still works. I rename the preview files to Folder.jpg
so I can see everything with a quick glance.
When I scrap, the photo decides which season (colors) would be good to
compliment it, the theme decides which designer I want to use products
from and a quick look in that particular folder almost always inspires
me to start creating.
So my advice for you is to stop tagging and start sorting instead. It
is much faster and will leave you with plenty of time and inspiration
to scrap (and shop).

“Cut-Up” Photo Effects
Using CS3, I am going
to show you how to create a unique and fun "cut-up" photo effect! I
love this effect for large photos where I want to center in on one
specific piece!
To start Open Photoshop CS3 or the editing program of your choice (some
options may not be available on other programs). Open up a background
paper from DSP to work on top of and a photo of your choice. Then let's
get started!
Start with your photo on a layer above your background. Select your Rectangular
Selection Tool.
Make a selection on your photo with your Rectangular Selection Tool. I
usually start with the part that I want to highlight.
Right click on your selection (inside the rectangular marquee) and
choose Layer via Copy.
Repeat this step to make selections on the Photo layer (not your new
copy layer) and make a number of different sized selections.
You can have as many layers or as little as you want! BE CREATIVE!!!
Once you are done making your selections. Turn off (click on the
eyeball on your layers palette) for your original photo layer.
In your Layer Style Palette, choose Drop Shadow and the following
settings:
Also choose Inner Glow, change the color to White and the following
settings:
Click OK to apply settings. Your top photo layer should have a small
highlighted edge and a shadow. While hovering over your layers palette,
right click above the effects on your top most photo layer. And choose Copy
Layer Style.
Right Click in your layers palette on your photo copies and choose Paste
Layer Style.
Once all your layer styles are pasted, you can be done. Your photo has
been chopped up in a creative manner! But if you want to take it a step
further, rotate some of the outer photo copies at a slight angle, move
the shadows with your liquify tool or use your other creative ideas to
make this tutorial your own!!!
