Letter from Team Digital – Margie

Kim Did you hear the news?! Last month, longtime Store Administrator & Designer Kim Liddiard became DSP's Director of Operations! Kim’s been an invaluable team member from the day DSP launched, contributing ideas on marketing, sales, and website development. Now, join us in congratulating her on taking over those duties full time!

Kim has been working hard on new things we can’t wait to share with you. Many of you have enjoyed her recent software installations: the shiny new chat room (complete with mobile technology) and this monthly newsletter delivered from our very improved email sending software. Stay tuned as Kim continues to help DSP to grow!

Fans of her art will be happy to learn that Kim isn’t giving up designing either. She will still add products to the store as she creates them. To learn more about Kim, read her site bio and see her products in the store.

Congratulations Kim and thank you for being such an important part of DSP! Congratulate Kim here in this thread!

Member Spotlight – sssnoo

sssnoo May's spotlight falls on the super-talented, DET Alumni, and a Scrappy Winner – Sandra – sssnoo.

Sandra says she finds inspiration in “Life, the world, my heart, a quote, a song. Everything. I am also inspired by other great scrappers and often troll the Hall of Fame or DET gallery for great ideas.”

She says she doesn’t really have a set style, and creates some very traditional paper-style layouts but also likes to play with graphic and fantasy style layouts. She does have a new favorite - Art Journaling. “So I guess I have branched out from just documenting family history -- although my Art Journal pages are really some of the most revealing pages I do and I hope my children enjoy them someday,” says Sandra.

When asked if she has a favorite layout, Sandra says it could be her Dear Aftama layout.

“Technically it isn't very good but it is a layout featuring a letter to my daughter's birth mother that I really needed to write. I still remember the entire process of creating that layout -- that one was more therapy than art, but I love it. It took me a long time to share it with my daughter but one day when she was really really mad at me I gave her a printed version. I can honestly say that was a turning point in our relationship and one of the only times I have seen her cry. She displays this layout on her wall. So sometimes a layout is just a layout and other times it is more. This one was more.”

Congratulations and thank you Sandra for sharing you wonderful talent as our DSP Member Spotlight for May 2012. Read more about Sandra on the Spotlight Page, visit Sandra’s Gallery. Then join the Scraplift the Spotlight Challenge for your chance to win a lucky draw DSP Store Voucher. With a gallery that is full of beautiful layouts I know Sandra will provide DSP members with some digital scrapbooking inspiration.

    Tina Chambers

This month, Tina has "saved the date" by making not one, but two versions of the Desktop Calendar Plopper. Check out her adorable calendars below for both May and June!

    Teresa Loman

Remember the days of only 12 exposures to a roll of film? Or how about 4 sides to a flash bulb cube? I do remember that from when my fascination with capturing the life around me on film first started in junior high. My first camera was my sister’s hand-me down Kodak Instamatic 124. That trip out to the Grand Canyon in 1981 was rough knowing I only had two rolls of film and very few flashbulb cubes! Rougher yet was waiting endlessly for the film to be developed when we got home from the trip. Thankfully those days are GONE! Now we can take hundreds, if not thousands of photos on a single memory card and see them instantly. Now THAT is Instamatic!

So I have to ask, “How many pictures of a single event do you take?” I take LOTS! I’m no longer worried about having enough exposures left on the roll of film to catch the end of the party or how much it’s going to cost just to develop the pictures. I can capture the entire event. What I have discovered is that if all of these pictures are strung together, they tell the story.

Here are some wonderful examples of just such story telling through multiple pictures from a single event.

In the “The Boot” by Sanra, she is able to show the whole struggle her darling Great Granddaughter goes through as she tries to put on a boot until finally she gives up and apparently asks for help.

    The Boot

I love this series of photos I took of my delightful little girlfriend, McKenna blowing dandelions in a field by our house several years ago.

    Lillian

I captured these photos of my son shoveling the deck on a snow day from an upstairs bedroom window. Clearly, he is not too happy about having to “work” on a cancelled school day due to weather which should be a free bonus day of sorts. I think my favorite photo is the one where he’s leaning up against the deck rail, taking a break.

    SnowDay

In this layout entitled Mastering Your Song by Scrapping4Him, her photos capture an entire silly song being sung. I bet this page will bring back memories of that precious performance even without the aid of an audio version of the song.

    Colorful Cats

To add some interest to multiple pictures from the same event, Felynn uses unique photo styles for each of her pictures in this layout displaying Isabelle’s enjoyment her chocolate milk.

    Isabelle

Just for fun, set up a photo shoot with your favorite cutie pie and see what comes of it. Scrapping4Him captured these absolutely delightful shots of her daughter.
    MallBreak

It’s a digital world so do be afraid to take LOTS of pictures!! And let the photos tell the story. Happy Scrapping!!
