Member Spotlight Questions – Kay Butler

DSP - How long have you been scrapping?
Kay - I dabbled a teeny bit in paper scrapping but just don’t have that kind of nature. I discovered the joys of Digi Scrapping about 4 years ago (and STILL struggle with Paper Style pages!!). It has been a long and somewhat lonely road out there for me as I battled to get to grips with Corel PhotoPaint...it was already on my computer so that is what I stuck to! I had no idea that the rest of the world used Adobe PhotoShop!! LOLOL!! I persevered and am totally self taught ...and after all the blood sweat and tears I would never change! I love “converting” PS talk to Corel and am so delighted when I discover “I can do ANYthing you can do better !!!” (only kidding !)

DSP - What do you like best about digital scrapbooking?
Kay - The Undo button on my keyboard!! I spend AGES tweaking and moving and changing things around. I could never ever go back to paper scrapping! I love layering and blending and graphic style pages which simply cannot be achieved in paper scrapping...PLUS there is no mess or gluey fingers or running out of supplies.

DSP - What drew you to this site?
Kay - I was trawling the Internet (looking for freebies LOL) when I stumbled upon DSP and never left! I totally love the sense of “belonging” that comes with being a member here. The designers are incredibly talented and everyone from the moderators and managers to the members themselves are so warm and caring and INVOLVED ...this is so rare in today’s lifestyle...especially on such a big site!

DSP - Do you have a favorite challenge here at DSP?
Kay – I love Graphically Challenged as is stretches my abilities and always inspires me to try something new. I also enjoy Nicole’s
C-AFE
. I always try to manage these two at least!

DSP - What is your most "off the wall" layout?
Kay - I’m not sure about “off the wall” (that sounds FAR too brave for me LOL!!) but my “Zoe Moment” was challenging for me as it used heaps of blending and layering and shadowing and extracting!!

DSP - Do you ever experience "scrappers block", and if so how do you overcome it?
Kay – I am always whining about my Lost Mojo! I do get over it pretty quickly though by browsing through wonderful galleries like DET and HOF . I also love scrapping magazines and trying out different techniques.

DSP
- What is your favorite thing to scrap about?
Kay – LOL! That one is easy !! 99% of my pages are my gorgeous GKs !!

DSP - If you were a scrapbook element, what would you be?
Kay – Probably a fuzzy brush or something like that ...you know...something that looks a bit ditsy and undefined but can be coaxed (or bribed!!) into creating something wonderful and unexpected!!

DSP - What part of the site do you spend the most time in, other than your gallery?
KayThe GRANNY THREAD!! This is absolutely the warmest safest funniest most loving place to hang out...everyday...all day (I wish!!) I started this thread over 4 years ago and it is very close to my heart. the Grans and GITS who’s lives have become so closely entwined with mine are so special to me! I think we probably drive Margie crazy at times but deep down I am sure she is very proud of us ...after all I think that we hold a world wide cyber record for the longest running thread with the most posts EVER!!! GO GRANS !!! Some of the warmest and loveliest moments in my life were meeting other GTers IRL!

DSP - What other hobbies or activities do you enjoy other than scrapping?
Kay – I sew and smock and quilt and knit and crochet and make rag dolls for my granddaughters...but none with the passion that I pursue scrapping! I am also getting quite excited about organic veggie and herb gardening at our new home (even though we haven’t quite moved in yet!) I find I am learning something new everyday!

DSP - Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
Kay – I was reading about a wedding ceremony was that was washed out by a rain storm ...when the bride was asked whether she was upset by the deluge she answered: “We get so consumed by trying to make everything perfect that we don’t truly surrender to the moment and the truth that it holds. Sometimes we just have to let go and have faith that everything will unfold as it should. Worrying about things isn’t going to make the journey any easier!”

What a wise young lady!! I am truly inspired by these words ...so whether you are playing with your grandchild...baking a cake...doing the housework (eeek..!!) or SCRAPPING !! Surrender to the moment with gusto...follow your bliss!
Thank-you so much for selecting me to be Spotlight for July ...it is such an honour.
