Then find a few photos and follow this tutorial to easily create a digital scrapbook page in Digital Image Pro.
BEGIN A NEW PAGE
Open Microsoft Digital Image Pro. Create a
new file (File- New).
Enter the desired scrapbook page size into
the boxes as shown below. Click ‘view advanced options to set
your resolution at 200 ppi). For good
print quality, always use at least 200 pixels per inch in the
OPEN YOUR PHOTOS
Open your photos (File – Open). Browse
your hard drive to find the photos you wish to include in your
scrapbook layout. Then click Open.
Your photos will open in file palette at
OPEN YOUR GRAPHICS
Open your graphics (File – Open). Browse
to find your desired graphics. Browse your CD drive if you are
using a graphics CD such as one the Scraps
of… lines of Cds. Or browse your hard drive to find
you downloaded to your computer. This
example uses graphics from the Celebrate Life’s Moments Page Kit
created by the DSP Designers.
Your graphics will open in the same
workspace as your photos and new files and also show in the file
palette at the side.
BEGIN BUILDING YOUR PAGE
Click on your new blank file to bring it to
the top of the workspace. This will be your layout file. Then do
the same with the background of your choice. You can drag your
files into the layout by clicking the layout file, and grabbing
the next file you want and pulling it in.
ADD A BACKGROUND
Click anywhere on the layout file then
scroll down to the background
file you want and just drag into the layout file.
ADD A PHOTO
Drag your first photo into your layout file
in this manner. You can resize your photo without distorting it by
squeezing it in from the corners, not from the top or sides. To
crop photos go to Format>crop>selected object and draw a box
around what you wish to crop. Click done.
ADD A DROP SHADOW
For a scrapbook layout to look realistic,
add a drop shadow to your photo. To do this you will go to
Effects>Shadow. In Shadow choose “Drop Right”. Then
‘customize the shadow‘. This will take you to a new screen.
DIP does not have great shadows, but with a little practice,
you’ll get to know them better. Here I’ve used 11% for
transparency & 43% for softness. Then move the shadows
to the left until you just have a bit peeking out as shown here.
Most DSP graphics come complete with an appropriate drop shadow
and need no extra shadow added.
Remember to add shadows to each of your
photos for realism.
ADD REMAINING PHOTOS AND EMBELLISHMENTS
Now drag the embellishment you want into
the layout file
Repeat this procedure with any additional
photos or embellishments you wish to add to your layout. Each item
will be added in its own layer automatically in your layout file
and you can move these about easily by clicking them or their
files in your stack at the side. You can also arrange their file
order (if they are in the front or back), by dragging them about
in the stack.
GET CREATIVE WITH EMBELLISHEMENTS
Often elements are included such as ribbons
and paper clips that you may want to have fun with. It is easy to
make elements look as though they are threaded, overlapped, or
placed partially behind other objects. To make these beads appear
to weave under, then back over the blue ribbon, place the bead
layer on top of
the ribbon layer. Click on the bead layer.
Click Effects>Transparency>Transparency Brush. Then choose
Hard Edge and 100% transparency. and erase any parts of the beads
that should appear to be under the ribbon.

tutorials in the Tutorials section.
To add journaling to your layout, click Add
Text in “add something”.
Then click on your layout and drag a
rectangle where you wish to add a text box.
Type your desired text then click on the
text layer in the Layers palette, the Text Tool, or press Control
Enter to apply your text to the layout. You can alter the color
and font choices in the Options Bar at the top of the workspace.
Using the Move Tool, you can move and rotate your text box just
like other files.
SAVE YOUR LAYOUT
When you are happy with your layout, save
your file (File – Save As) as a Picture It file (.png) unique
name in a folder on your hard drive. This file will remain with
all layers intact and you will be able to reopen and edit it at a
SHARE YOUR LAYOUT ON THE WEB
To make your layout small enough to upload
to a website
or share by email, choose File>Save a
copy for>Email or Web.
In the New Size box, reduce the size to 600
x600px. Choose approx. an 85% quality size. A dialog box will
prompt you for a file name. Save with a unique name such as
originalfilename_web.jpg. This version will be flattened and will
no longer be editable, but it will be a perfect size for emailing
to friends and uploading to the DSP
Scrapbook page created by Tina Chambers.
