Tutorial: Using Quick Clicks in Digital Image Pro (DIP)

by Lauren Bavin

(Screenshots and instructions created with Version 9- other versions may look and behave slightly differently)

Open a new image ( 2400px x 2400px) and then open the png files included in the quick click

You may choose at this stage to add a background ( it is up to you when you add your background image – it can be added at any time)
I have chosen to add my background layer now – so I have opened the background image file and dragged it into my new layout

In the files tray – select the first layer – to apply to your layout – Use the command Edit - Select all

Then Edit Copy
Move to the new layout file and hit edit paste

With this quick click you have a choice – there are several pieces in this layer. You could choose to fill them all with the same background paper or pattern or color, or you could choose to fill each strip with a different one. I’m going to fill each strip with a different piece of various background papers.
I need to select one strip so I am going to use the magic wand tool

You can find this under the Edit menu – Selection tools- magic wand.
Click anywhere inside the strip and it will be selected.

Now use the command Effects- Fill with color or texture

Then when the fill screen opens you can choose to fill with a color or gradient or a picture. I want to use a background paper from a kit so I choose picture

The next screen allows me to choose which file I want to use
Browse to the background paper you wish to use as a fill and open it

The strip is filled with the background – you can increase the size and move it around to find the best part to fill with

Now we can move on to the other strips and repeat that procedure .

If you wish to fill multiple strips with the same background paper at the same time when you use the magic wand tool – hold down the shift key and then select another strip to add it to the selection

Once you have completed filling the layer you can add more drop shadow if you wish to – there is some drop shadow on most quick click layers but you may wish to add more.
You can add a shadow from the effects menu –
Effects- shadow
Most quick click templates work best with a shadow down and to the right

Adding the photo is a breeze using the same process.

Click on the photo placement template layer and add it to your layout using the edit select all edit copy edit paste commands,

Use the same fill with colour or texture to put a photo into it. ( If your photo is the wrong orientation for the photo placement then it pays to open the photo first – rotate to the correct orientation and then select it from the file tray as there is no option to rotate within the fill effect dialogue)

You can now continue to add the various layers and complete your layout.

Please feel free to move change or resize any of the layers in the quick click – they are a guide only – You may find rotating the various layers means you end up with a completely different layout and therefore get added value from your quick click purchase.
