Tutorial: DSU Private Forum and Lesson Access

Congratulations on registering for a DSU class! If you're already familiar with the DSU forums, then accessing lessons and the private class forum will be a breeze because DSU uses the DSP forums to conduct classes. If not, follow these simple instructions to get into your class material.

1. Access Private Class Forum

All DSU classes start on the first day of each month, and all lessons are sent out the same day of the week all month. If you do not receive email notification from the dean by the end of the second day of the month, please first check in your Junk Mail to see if the message was filtered out.

If you cannot find the email, then contact dean@digitalscrapbookplace.com to request another email sent to you. This email contains the password to access your private class forum where you will find your lesson links.

Either click the link in the email to go directly to the private class forum, or find a complete list of private forums at:

http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=52

Or access the list near the bottom of the DSP Main Forums list under Digital Scrapbook U>DSU Class Forums heading, between Photography and Off Topic. Click the DSU Class Forums link to see a full list, or choose your specific class (month and course number) from the sub-forums list.

Choosing a specific class forum (month and course number) will open a dialog asking for your private class password, which was provided in the dean's email. Do NOT use your regular username and password. It does not matter if you are logged in to DSP or logged out.

If you cannot access the private forum or the lesson links, try the following troubleshooting ideas.

1. Log in to DSP using YOUR REGULAR username and password. Log in to the private forum using the class password. Log in to the lessons using the class login and password.
2. Do not use the AOL browser.
3. Please make sure you are using the correct CASE-SENSITIVE password provided in the email.
4. Do your browser maintenance: delete Temporary Internet files, restart the browser, reboot the computer, and if needed clear Cookies and History.
5. If all else fails, please try logging out of DSP completely, click on or paste the forum link into your browser, and put in the password when prompted. You should be able to get in from there and then you can log into DSP in order to post messages after you have accessed your class forum.

If you're still having trouble after using these ideas, please contact dsu@digitalscrapbookplace.com or your specific instructor at: example firstname@digitalscrapbookplace.com

If you do not hear back, please send a private message to DSU and/or to your specific instructor through the site in case the email reply was filtered or the original message bounced.

2. Accessing DSU Lessons

After entering your private class forum, please introduce yourself to the teacher and other students. There will be a thread or a thread announcement containing the lesson links. Click the thread or announcement open to find the link along with the class USERNAME and PASSWORD (the same password used to access the private forum).

Here the class username and password is given, which is needed to log into the lesson itself.

fig 4

Click the link to the lesson and a dialog box will pop up asking for the class username and password. Do NOT use your DSP username nor password: use the CLASS username and password provided.

fig 5

Use File>Save As to save the lesson to your hard drive. For html classes, it is recommended to print to PDF format using a PDF converter utility such as Acrobat Pro or a free utility such as PrimoPDF.

If you are still having trouble accessing the lessons after using this tutorial and the troubleshooting advice, please contact either dean@digitalscrapbookplace.com or your instructor directly via email and/or Private Message through DSP.
