Quick Classes: Deleting the Backround with the Extract Tool in Photoshop 7

Deleting the background using the Extract tool in Photoshop7

Often you may wish to extract your subject from the background of your photo
In Photoshop 7 there are many methods of doing this but one of the easiest is to use the extract tool which can be found under the filter menu
Here I want to extract this rose from its background

First its always wise to duplicate your image and work with a copy so that if you make an error
you can always go back to the original
Now go to the filter menu and select extract
Select a brush size big enough to cover the egde of the subject you wish to extract
The idea is to let your brush run over the edge of the subject but also go right over the edge so that the part you are deleting is covered by the brush also as shown here

run the brush right around the edge of the subject

then move to the fill tool and click inside the highlighed lines you have drawn and hit ok
and photoshop will delete all the background as if by magic!!
