Start with creating a new
document 800x800 px, 200ppi, transparent
Select the Custom Shape tool
on the toolbar. You will have a browser window in front of you –
go and choose “Heart” custom shape
Set the foreground color to
the following settings:
Holding the Shift key draw a
red heart – the size you want
Go Layer>Rasterize>Layer.
Select the heart area by clicking on it with the selection tool.
Now change the foreground
color to dark red or
Bordeaux
– we’re going to add some realism and shadowing to our
heart
Select Layer>New Layer.
Now we will be working on it.
Select the Brush tool –
choose some soft medium sized brush to apply gentle strokes
Now paint the strokes as
shown – this will create the inner shadow of the heart. Don’t
worry – since you draw inside the selection, your strokes will
remain inside of the heart area
Go Filters>Blur>Gaussian
Blur. Adjust the following settings and click OK.

Now our
inner shadow looks more blurred and realistic.
Now change the foreground
color to delicate pink – we’re going to add some light to our
heart

Create a new
layer.
Paint the pink strokes as
shown:
Go Filters>Blur>Gaussian
Blur. Adjust the settings as shown in the picture.
Now look what we’ve come
up with! Cute, ain’t it? But still needs some finishing
touches.
Create new layer. Switch the
foreground color to white and draw two small strokes as
shown:

Now we’re off for a
blurring filter again – select Filters>Blur>Gaussian Blur
and adjust the following settings:
Go Layer>Merge Visible.
Enjoy your heart! You can use it as a separate element on your
layouts or create wonderful cards for Valentine’s Day or
Mother’s day.
