This tutorial will help you make a fancy tag (or any type of fancy shape) in Photoshop Elements. First make a new document. Start with a 4in x 6in document at 200 or 300dpi. File > New

There are many, many ways to make shapes in Photoshop Elements, this is just one way using the marquee tool. First we will make the base of our tag by using the rectangular marquee tool as shown below.

Click in your new document and drag out a rectangle.

Next we want to make the rounded top to our tag. We can use the elliptical marquee tool for this. To open up the elliptical marquee tool, right click on the little fly out arrow on the bottom right of the marquee tool box. Then click on Elliptical.

As you can see the tool changes to the elliptical tool, to change back to the rectangular do the same do the same thing again, but this time click on rectangular.

We want to add the rounded top so click on "Add to selection" in the tool bar options.

Click and draw out your tag topper. This may take several trials to get it right. If you do not like your results, just click on undo and try again.

This is what is should look similar to.

Next we want to cut out the little hole in the tag. This time click on subtract from selection and again click and draw out a small circle. As shown below.

The next step can be done several ways. You can pick out your paper you want to make you tag out of and crop it to a 4x6 size and then copy and paste this into your document. Or you can just drag the entire paper into the document. If you do the latter then you will need to crop off the excess (which I will show you how to do a little later in the tutorial).

Use the inverse Selection option to select all but the tag. Then hit the delete key. You should have cut away all the excess paper and only have your tag remaining, as shown below.

Now if you had dragged your entire paper into your new document, you will have excess paper that you do not see. To get rid of this you can follow these simple steps. Select all, then crop the excess away from your document (the excess hanging on the outside). This step will also make you document size smaller.

This tutorial can be used to make many, many different shapes of tags. Now that was easy. Have fun and remember to post your creations in the DSP gallery.
