Tutorial: Re-coloring Word Art in Paint Shop Pro 8.1
by Valeri Brumfield

Most of the word art we buy is either black or white and most times it works, but sometimes we just need it to be a different color. Because the "black and white" colors have no hues, you canno change it with the colorizer, but there is a pretty easy way to do it. I am sure there are many different methods, but this is my way. I hope you find it helpful.

I found some great word art for this photo, but it is black. I don't really want it to be white either, so I am going to make it the same color as the slide, so i will use my color picker to get the right match of red for the word art. Add a new layer and flood it with the red color. Now hide the red layer by clicking on the visability toggle and select on the text layer. Using your magic wand, click on one of the black letters. Now on your Menu choose the following: Selections | Modify | Select Similar. Then choose, Selections | Invert. Now select the red layer again, show the layer and hit the delete key.

Now you should have something like this image. Now deselect and merge visable layers.

Now you have colored word art to use on your layouts!

Remember that each piece of word art is different and some may require a bit more tolerance on the selection. Just play around until you get what you want. Remember, the UNDO button is your friend.
