Combining Title and Picture (PSP)

Paint Shop Pro XI was used in this tutorial.

Using the selection tool draw a rectangle, in the shape and size desired for your picture. This should be on a separate layer from your background paper. Fill with the paint bucket.

Using the text tool, create your title, using the font and size of your choice. It may be easier to use a different color for your font, so you can see it, we will change it in the next step.

Rotate your title 90 degrees if you want it vertical and move into position, so it overlaps the edge of your picture rectangle slightly. Change the font color to match the rectangle color.

Make sure the text and the picture layer are next to each other. Right click on whichever of those 2 layers is on top, choose Merge>Merge Down. You should now have1 combined picture layer and your background layer.

Use your wand tool (with the match mode set to opacity and contiguous NOT checked) to select the combined title and picture shape. Marching ants should be around, the shape.
Right click on the shape layer, New Mask Layer>Show Selection. This puts a mask layer above the shape layer, in the thumbnail the shape should be white and the area around it should be black. Hit Ctrl+D to delete the marching ants.
Copy your picture into your document. Move the picture layer in between the mask and the shape layer, you may now delete the shape layer if you so choose.

Using the pick tool you can adjust the position of your picture, as you desire.
Once you are satisfied, you may cut the picture in this shape, by merging the picture and the shape layer together. (Right click>Merge>Merge Down)
Finish your layout as desired, using a stroke, drop shadow or other effects and adding any other pictures or elements that you desire.
