Tutorial: Paint Shop Pro-Decorative Edges
by Valeri Brumfield

So you found that perfect kit that you have been looking for, but it doesn't have the right kind of photo mat. What do you do? Simple, make it with your kit papers! Cut a piece of your background paper out the size that you want for your photo mat. You could just stop here, add a drop shadow for depth and top it with a photo... or you could add a decorative edge like paper scrappers would do with their edgers.

Select "load mask from disk". Don't let the "mask" part fool you, we are using any images that are either in *.msk or *.jpg format. Below are some samples of edge masks that might be useful for photo mats.

(please note that these are NOT full size images and not for use in your program. many free masks can be download from various sites. trying google searching for them.)
Just right click on your layer pallet like shown below.
Lets use a scalloped edged mask for our example. Ok.. load up the mask on your paper that you cut out from your kit background paper.
Notice on your layer pallet now has a "group" consisting of the image layer and a mask later. In order to use your mat, you must merge the layers. This is very simple to do.
Once you have merged the group, your mat is ready to use, just add a small drop shadow and enjoy!!
