Totally Fontalicious!

by Nicole Young

Courier New, Times New Roman, Garamond, Arial…..DSP Dilemma, DSP My First Font, DSP Rock On, DSP Stamped Kasbah….Bold, Italic, Underlined….Size 20, Size 40, Size 150…..Is your head spinning yet?????

Yeah, font choices can be quite overwhelming but they impact a layouts mood and the emotions that it conveys, so they are also vitally important!!!! So where do we start? How do we know what font choice is right for our layouts?

All of our layouts have a “mood” or emotion that we are trying to convey. A picture of our child graduating from college might evoke feelings of relief, sadness, joy, or pride. A picture of our wedding might evoke love, happiness, or bliss. A picture of our 2 years-olds “painting” on the wall with crayon might evoke the emotions of humor, frustration, or irritation. Get the picture? (no pun intended!)

So as we journal or title our page, what fonts will reflect these feelings???? Let’s take a look at 5 DSP fonts and discuss the “moods” that they convey….

DSP Adorable- the title says it all! With childlike qualities and a fun, loving vibe, to me it evokes feelings of love, happiness, joy, bliss, youth, and laughter

DSP Free Bin- this funky font has a very creative, urban vibe; to me it says wild, funky, crazy, and passionate. Mixing different fonts in your title or journaling is a great way to draw attention to important pieces of your journaling!

DSP Sticky Keyboard- this grungy typewritten font, to me expresses a more formal, informational vibe, maybe I would tell a story that was factual and to the point

DSP Warm and Fuzzy- warm and fuzzy? Need I say more??? This font definitely feels just that; love, warmth, laughter, and cuddly

DSP Cheeseburger in Paradise- this font is fantastic for emotions that are IN YOUR FACE!! This is a great font for titles since it is bold and all caps, but could also be used for journaling; definitely has a strong, passionate feel to it!

So next time you are creating a title for your layout or journaling a memory that you want to last forever, take time to consider what your font is saying! Match the mood of your layout and the mood of your font and your layout will be more impactful! Be sure to check out the new items in the store, I was so inspired by all the word art, titles, and fonts that are popping up in all sorts of items that have been going into the store!!!!
